William James “Jimmy” Erkes, Jr.
The County of Bucks is dedication a bridge on Thursday, May 4th, at 11:30am. County bridge number 183, Farm School Road over Tohickon Creek, Bedminster Township, PA (GPS: 40.45841617572725, -75.15966160395801) will be named in honor of United States Army 2nd Lieutenant William James Erkes, Jr. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Erkes, whose friends and family called “Jiimy”, was an Eagle Scout, and a graduate of Palisades High School. He served as class president during his junior and senior years. He earned an Army ROTC scholarship to Rutgers University.
Erkes graduated from Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA, and then completed Airborne and Special Forces training at Ft. Bragg, NC, before reporting to Vietnam. He served as a platoon leader with Company D, 321st Infantry Brigade, Americal Division.
Erkes was engaged to be married. He was killed a few days before the local paper published the wedding announcement. He is buried in Point Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, Point Pleasant, PA.
